More awards on the menu for popular Bury St Edmunds restaurant

Edmunds Restaurant has picked up a highly commended AA rosette.

The establishment – based inside the grounds of West Suffolk College – has managed to secure this prestigious badge of honour for the last seven years in a row, having originally gained their first rosette in 2019.

To get this recognition in 2026, a representative from the AA rosette team came along to try out the menu – that offers everything from curry to cupcakes – whilst also judging their experience in terms of service, dish presentation, health and safety, friendliness of staff and the overall ambience of the establishment.

On this occasion, the college served up a tasty buffet for the AA representative and according to Stuart Ascott, the Group Head of Culinary Arts for Eastern Education Group, the feedback he received was very positive.

He said: “She (the auditor) was really happy with everything. Her report stated that the ‘hospitality at Edmunds was very good starting with an instantly warm meet-and-greet’.

“It also said that ‘Edmunds remains a well-organised, multi-functional room with a highly professional bar area and flexible seating layouts that mimic a commercial restaurant.’

“This is also very pleasing as we pride ourselves on running a place for people of all ages to try out top quality food that we serve at amazingly reasonable prices.

“I’m delighted and really happy with this award. It shows we are really consistent and provide a top-quality service that has impeccable standards. Over the past year we have served 8000 customers and we have some exciting plans for the future so the message to everyone is to come down and try us out.”

Jyotsna Kharbanda is the front of house and events manager at Edmunds Restaurant. She said: “We have a quality and consistent standard and we are really happy with the achievement. I am happy and proud of what we do and our students have played a big part in helping us achieve this – so well done to them.”
