Become a Governor
Governance plays a vital role in supporting and shaping the future of education, providing an opportunity to really have an impact and benefit the wider community.
Reasons to volunteer
- Help ensure local voices are heard
- A rewarding experience
- Give back to education by sharing your time, skills and experience
- Make a difference in the local community of our schools and colleges
- Make connections and be part of bigger networks of like-minded people
- Develop your leadership skills
Ways to get involved
As a large education Group, we are constantly on the lookout for like-minded people who share our vision for transforming lives through education. We have multiple governance roles and can place people according to their interests and skillsets.

Time commitment
Depending on the governance role your term of office could be between one and four years.
All governance members are asked to attend induction sessions and training sessions upon appointment, which should take half a day – though these can be online and arranged to suit your availability.
All governance members are invited to participate in in-person strategy and development activities, which take two to three days per annum.
Depending on which Committees and/or Academy Councils you join, you would be attending one to two meetings per term (three to six meetings per annum). These are typically two to three hours long, with time outside of the meeting to read the papers.
Lastly, we also ask all governance members to visit our schools and colleges to see first-hand what we do, and to join us in celebrating our students at events across our schools and colleges. The time commitment varies depending on your availability, however we expect governance members to set aside half a day per term (one and a half days per annum) for these visits.
Support and training
All governance members are supported throughout their term with professional development and networking opportunities. Governance mentors are also available.
Financial and logistical support
Governance members can claim expenses for governance-related travel to the schools and colleges, in accordance with our Financial Regulations. We can also provide electronic equipment for governance members to access the meeting papers if this is needed.
