A college that has brought the armed forces and construction industry together is celebrating after being nominated for a national award.
Eastern Education Group began their partnership with Building Heroes three years ago.
In that time, Eastern Education Group has supported over 150 Armed Forces personnel to develop new trade skills in Construction as they approach the end of active military service.
As part of the Level 1 Diploma, students develop skills in bricklaying, painting, carpentry, plumbing, plastering and tiling, gaining industry recognised qualifications and CSCS certification – that allows them to work on building sites.
As a result of this partnership, Eastern Education Group has been recognised for their efforts and is a finalist in the Strategic Partnership Award category. Staff from the delivery and management team will attend the Building Heroes Gala Awards ceremony at Drapers Hall in London on 8th October 2026 where winners will be announced.
Deborah Barton is Regional Director for the East at Eastern Education Group. She said: “It’s great to be recognised for our work in supporting our armed forces personnel who do so much for our country.
“The courses are delivered on ‘real’ building sites, the students get enrichment as they see a site in action – and they also get to work alongside industry professionals.
“We are looking to further develop our relationship with Building Heroes by overseeing more provision in Essex and Cambridgeshire that will support individuals, whilst also helping to provide the industry with fresh talent, as they seek to fill major skills gaps.
“In terms of Cambridgeshire, we are aiming to support a Building Heroes Progression Academy in St Neots.
Specifically on the award Deborah continued: “To be nominated is a great privilege, and we are incredibly proud to see this work recognised nationally. The real reward, however, is seeing the difference the partnership is making to ex-veterans’ lives — giving them renewed focus, confidence and the opportunity to build a meaningful second career. That impact is both inspiring and deeply humbling.”

Helping individuals retrain, gain valuable construction skills, and access meaningful end-of-service career opportunities is incredibly rewarding. Together, we are not only opening doors to employment but also helping to shape futures, build confidence, and support veterans as they transition into successful civilian careers.”
