Headteacher of Woolpit says ‘this is a landmark moment in our history’
The Woolpit Primary Academy has joined Eastern Education Group.
The CEO of the group – Dr Nikos Savvas OBE DL – recently welcomed the school ‘into the Eastern Education Group family’ during a talk in front of all staff.
Dr Savvas reflected on the group, proudly referencing some of the outstanding Eastern Education Group institutions that include West Suffolk College, Abbeygate Sixth Form College and One Sixth Form College – and set out a vision to ensure Woolpit remains at the very heart of its community.
He also looked ahead to the upcoming academic year referencing the groups commitment to climate change and inclusivity, whilst reiterating his determination to ensure that every student and staff member at Woolpit and across the group, reaches their potential and continues to thrive.
During this event, the headteacher of the academy – Emma Jones – proudly discussed what being part of Eastern Education Group means to the school and the local community.
Emma said: “This is the start of my third year (as headteacher) and I’m looking forward to the future. We currently have 120 children and around 25 staff and we are really excited to be joining Eastern Education Group because of the opportunities it will give us.
“We have a clear vision for our children and our community – and being part of Eastern Education Group is a landmark moment in our history.
“To belong to an organisation and work with colleagues from different schools and colleges, and to be able to collaborate with them for the benefit of all our children and staff is an exciting prospect.
She continued: “We are really interested in developing music, drama and the arts across the school, and we have some exciting school visits planned across the year. Working with Eastern Education Group will enable us to do even more, so that our children can become the very best versions of themselves in the future.”
James Clark is the Director of Primaries for Eastern Education Group. He said: “We are delighted to welcome Woolpit into the Eastern Education Group family.
“The school has a strong ethos of inclusion and clear commitment to its pupils, and we look forward to working together to build on its successes and create even more opportunities for children, staff and the wider community.”
The school became an academy in January 2016 and teaches youngsters from the ages of five to eleven.
They have previously worked with EEG, most recently where groups of students attended a ‘Skills Escalator Day’ in January 2026 – a careers event that gives attendees an interactive glimpse into the world of work.
Other primary schools in the group include Exning and Stanton.
Eastern Education Group also has a university, outreach centres in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk as well as SEND schools in Bury, Fakenham, Ipswich, Lowestoft and Sudbury.
