Successes include 100% pass rate in adult learning.
Individual achievements see learner pass maths at fifth time of asking.
Eastern Education Group is celebrating some inspiring individual and collective successes during GCSE and vocational results day.
This year, hundreds of learners adults and young people based across Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire have achieved success through Eastern Education Group’s colleges, sixth forms and learning centres.
Eastern Education Group – that has a large number of ‘outstanding’ places of study within the group – heard from a number of inspirational people who helped prove that the education it provides has the power to transform lives at any stage of life, regardless of age or background.
Successes included 100% pass rates in adult learning and many vocational areas. And one learner passed maths at the fifth time of asking.
In a statement Dr Nikos Savvas OBE DL, CEO of Eastern Education Group, said ‘huge congratulations’ to students and staff for some incredible achievements.
100% pass rate and inspirational stories in adult learning
20 adult learners took GCSE qualifications with the support of Eastern Education Group at their University and Professional Development Centre in Bury St Edmunds, achieving a 100% pass rate across the board.
Within that, all those who took maths gained a grade 4 or above. 83% of biology students achieved a grade 4 or above and 60% of learners who took English did the same.
Inspirational students included Hope Horsman who passed her maths GCSE at the fifth time of asking. And 52-year-old Wynne Hindle who passed her maths qualification after previously taking it on four occasions. So it was a win for Wynne securing a grade four at her fifth attempt.
Other successes saw Lianne Thorpe gain a grade 8 in biology, and Annamaria Benczo gained a grade 7 in the same subject.
Deborah Barton, Assistant Principal for Personal and Professional Learning at Eastern Education Group, praised the determination of adult learners across the region: “Our adult students have once again stepped up and created their own little bit of history.
“Many have come back into education after decades away, but they have all shown commitment, resilience and determination to achieve the outcomes they deserve.
“Also, a quick word of thanks to our tutors who have worked tirelessly throughout the year – I am incredibly proud of everyone’s efforts.
“I was also over the moon when I found out that one of my former students from over a decade ago called Hope Horsman passed her GCSE maths at the fifth time of asking. She also managed to pass her GCSE in biology. It shows incredible resilience and I’m very proud of her – and indeed all of our adult learners.”
GCSE success for young people across the group
Hundreds of 16- to 19-year-old students from across Eastern Education Group gained GCSE grades 4 or above passes in maths and English, having previously been unable to do so at school.
They included 101 learners in maths, including Elliot Buxton a level 3 Applied Sciences EHCP student who resat maths on a number of occasions before gaining an impressive grade 5 this time out.
In terms of English, 197 students achieved a grade 4 or above.
In addition to this, 91% of all students who took a level 1 or level 2 vocational course at West Suffolk College successfully passed their programme. Individual successes saw travel and tourism students flying high on the cabin crew pathway gaining a 100% pass rate on their course. Eastern Education Group also saw 100 pass rates on hairdressing (level 2), performing arts (level 2) and barbering (level 1).
Colin Shaw is the Executive Group Principal for West Suffolk College. He said: “Following on the back of some incredible vocational results last week, our amazing students – with the support of our fantastic staff – have once again come up trumps in terms of success stories relating to our level 1, level 2 and GCSE courses. A very well done to everyone involved – and now as enrolment starts, we can’t wait to welcome returning learners and new starters to our group in the coming days, weeks and months.”
More results joy for One Sixth Form College
At One Sixth Form, 69 young people managed to gain a grade 4 or above in maths and a further 82 achieved a grade 4 or above in English. In terms of level 2 courses, 100% pass rates were seen in engineering, health, beauty therapy motor vehicle and art. And there was a 100% pass rate across the board in level 1 vocational courses.
Continued success for Eastern Education Group after A level results
These results follow last week’s outstanding A-level and T-level outcomes, which included Oxbridge offers, international scholarships and remarkable vocational performances.
Dr Savvas OBE DL said: “Huge congratulations on your results. Whatever they are, you’ve done something hard today, and you should be proud of it.
“This isn’t the end of anything. It’s the start of choosing your own path, and that’s exactly what Eastern Education Group exists to help you do, not funnel you into someone else’s idea of what comes next.
