New sponsorship deal helps kick off new football season for Chalk Hill school in Sudbury

A Sudbury school kicked off their season in a new kit thanks to the generosity of a local business owner.

The team are made up of students for Chalk Hill and they proudly wore a strip sponsored by Gav Can With a Van during their first game of the season.

This latest partnership is helping the squad go from strength to strength.

Last season that got to play at Sudbury FC for the first time.

And now they get to wear a dapper outfit to help showcase their footballing skills.

Byron Higgins is the head of residential care at Chalk Hill and the manager of the football team. He said: “We are now in a league for the first time, and we’ve got a brand-new kit thanks to Gav Can With a Van. We have been training lots and I’m expecting good things this season. Football really helps with the student’s confidence and brings them together. Massive thanks to Gav who has backed us this season. It makes us feel like a proper team all thanks to him.”

Captain of Chalk Hill is Darryl Milward, 12, from Needham Market. Darryl – an Ipswich fan – said: “It’s a nice feeling to be captain, the kit looks good – and we would like to thank Gav.”

Gav Brightwell is the owner of Gav Can With a Van – a Sudbury company specialising in transport, waste disposal, double glazing and handy man services. Gav said: “I’ve wanted to sponsor someone for a while, the school is a stones throw from my house and I was happy to help. I think it’s important to support the local community. I’ve had support over the years, so has my daughter – so it’s good to give something back to others.”

Thie first game of the season was against Churchill Special Free School from Haverhill and it ended up being a six-goal thriller that saw Chalk Hill come back from 3-1 down to secure a draw with virtually the last kick of the game.

Goals from Ethan Bird, Keegan Osborne and Harvey Patton secured a point for Chalk Hill. The latter (Harvey) – who played in goal and scored – was given man of the match.
