100 Voices – Toby Hayes

Toby Hayes studied Business and Finance at West Suffolk College from 2020 to 2022. With support from the careers team, he went on to study at Nottingham Trent University, where he is now in his third year and on track to graduate with first-class honours. He chose West Suffolk College for its flexibility, allowing him to balance part-time work with his studies, and he now credits the college for helping to shape his future.

What made you want to study at West Suffolk College?

I joined because I liked the flexibility that it offered students; I could work part-time as well as balancing my coursework. I also didn’t have much idea of my future, so a business and finance course was ideal for me and intrigued me.
I completed the business and finance course between 2020 and 2022, and on top of this, I completed a Financial Studies diploma with the London Institute of Banking and Finance (LIBF) associated with WSC.

How did the college help you to take the next steps for your future?

After I finished my course, I understood better what I wanted to pursue, so with the support of the careers team, I chose to go to university at Nottingham Trent. I am currently in my third year, and I’m predicted to graduate with a first-class degree, and WSC really supported with building the foundation of where I am now.

What’s your best memory from your time at West Suffolk College?

While completing my financial studies diploma, we went on a trip to the financial district in London and visited the Bank of England as well as the LIBF university, and I was given an award for my excellent grades and offered a scholarship to the university.

What helped you the most during your studies?

The business staff at the time I was studying were brilliant, they really wanted the best for us, one staff member in particular, Daniel Connor, pushed me further and really supported me in my achievements.

What advice would you give to future students of Eastern Education Group?

Engage! The group has brilliant facilities for you as a student to take full advantage of.
