Sunrise Academy

Sunrise Academy in Lowestoft specialises in supporting children aged 10 to 16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, who have difficulties in managing their behaviour and emotions. Most of our students are within an average cognitive range, with some having lower than average cognition.

Many of our students have had previous negative experiences of school, and some have not been in education for some time. So, we take a personalised, nurturing approach; educating the whole child with the ultimate goal of helping them to reach their full potential when they leave us.

Our intimate learning environment – we offer places for 56 students – reflects our tailored approach of ensuring that each child’s educational and emotional needs are met. Importantly, our approach is underpinned by the students building strong, dependable relationships with the adults at Sunrise.

What we strive for

We encourage our students to have high expectations for their own behaviour, through teamwork and providing them with a safe, secure and supportive environment.

We recognise the importance of ensuring our students make the academic progress which they are capable of. Our aspirational approach aims to support our students to achieve their GCSEs. Our broad curriculum raises the life chances of our students, ensuring that every opportunity will be available to them.

We aim for students to develop as individuals, with the chance to gain vocational skills, alongside their core subjects, developing an understanding of the relevance of learning to the real-world and career opportunities.
