Duke of Lancaster Academy, a specialist SEND school in Fakenham, was delighted to welcome students, families, staff, transport providers and members of the local community to its recent Macmillan Coffee Afternoon fundraiser.
In the lead up to the event, students from across the school worked hard in their Food Technology lessons to prepare a fantastic range of sweet and savoury snacks, cakes and treats. Their hard work and creativity were on full display as visitors enjoyed the delicious refreshments while supporting a very worthwhile cause.
The event provided students with valuable opportunities to develop important life skills, including teamwork, communication, food preparation and customer service. Students took pride in helping to run the event, serving refreshments and welcoming guests throughout the afternoon.
Funds raised will support Macmillan Cancer Support, helping the charity continue its incredible work providing practical, emotional and financial support to people living with cancer and their families. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended, donated or supported the event, over £300 was raised.
River, a Year 6 student, said:“I have really enjoyed it so much. I have enjoyed helping serve the cake.”
Julie-Anne Taylor, Food Technology Lead, said:“I am incredibly proud of the students who baked cakes and in particular the students who have helped serve guests. Thank you to all the students and parents who donated cakes to our coffee afternoon. All the money raised will go to Macmillan, an amazing charity who support people living with cancer.”
One parent who attended the event commented: “I had a wonderful time. It was so lovely to see the older students being a part of the event and having some responsibility. They did really well and it was lovely to see. It was a wonderful opportunity to come into the school.”
The school would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who attended, donated cakes and treats, volunteered their time, and contributed towards making the event such a success. The afternoon was a wonderful celebration of community spirit, student achievement and charitable giving, and everyone involved should be incredibly proud of what was accomplished together.
