Priory School Sixth Form

We spend much of the week out in the community, grounding our learning in real life situations and developing student confidence, safety awareness and interpersonal skills. Whilst in Sixth Form, students will have the opportunity to undertake work experience in a supported group placement and we work closely with our Careers Team to facilitate this.

In Sixth Form, students develop purposeful relationships with their peers, adults and the community through a range of shared learning experiences which underpin our curriculum. Last year, some students volunteered in a community shop and at a walled garden. During their time with us, students will gain some experience of using public transport and Travel Training can be booked for those whom it is deemed appropriate. 

Priory Sixth Form is a full-time offer (5 days a week, term time only). Most of our students have previously attended KS4 at Priory School but we do have a few students who join us in Year 12 or 13 from other provisions.   We aim to prepare students for adulthood and independence by developing life skills.

Pathway for Adulthood and Independence

Students are taught in a class size of up to 12. Students continue to develop their maths and English skills and there is a large focus on community participation with frequent visits to shops, museums and restaurants.  Developing a healthy lifestyle is a key aim so students participate in the planning, purchasing of ingredients and cooking simple meals. Additionally, we endeavour to use green spaces such as woodlands and parks to promote exercise and wellbeing.  The curriculum also covers other life skills such as gardening, household chores, developing hobbies, interests and practical elements such as basic sewing, and simple DIY. The qualifications offered are:

• City and Guilds Generic Maths Award (Entry Level)
• City and Guilds Generic English Award (Entry Level)
• AQA Food Unit Awards
• ASDAN Lifeskills
• Functional Skills Maths and English (Entry Level -if appropriate)

The City and Guilds qualifications are unit based and assessed through a portfolio of evidence from classroom learning. 

The Functional Skills qualifications are exam based.
