A college and a company came together to champion careers in manufacturing.
The occasion took place at Stainless Metalcraft and the North Cambridgeshire Training Centre (NCTC) in Chatteris.
During the day, both organisations opened their doors to youngsters, jobseekers, potential apprentices and members of the public as part of National Manufacturing Day.
Then in the evening, local businesses were invited in for tours of the business and the college amidst a showcase event.
Chris Duggan, MD at Metalcraft, said: “We are proud to have been part of the local Fenland community for over a hundred years, playing a key role in a range of industries, from medical imaging and energy to nuclear decommissioning, submersibles and supercomputer facilities.
“National Manufacturing Day shines a light on the contribution the manufacturing industry makes to the success of our local and national economy, so it was great to welcome so many members of our local community to Metalcraft; sharing our work and future plans and hopefully inspiring the next generation to choose a career in engineering.”
Centre Manager at NCTC, Louise Unwin said: “This exciting event helped highlight the strength and innovation of the local manufacturing sector whist inspiring the next generation of engineers and technicians. Thanks to all who supported us.”
National Manufacturing Day was set up by Make UK and is a nationwide celebration organised that is celebrating its fourth anniversary. The initiative invites the public into factories and sites for a behind-the-scenes look at how UK manufacturing works to promote careers and the industry itself.
