100 Voices – James Orme

In 2016, after completing a year of sixth form, James realised the experience wasn’t living up to his expectations and made the conscious decision to explore a different path by enrolling at West Suffolk College – a choice that would become one of the most significant turning points in his educational journey. Opting to study Travel and Tourism under the expert guidance of Jason Ling, James found the course to be both engaging and transformative, setting a strong foundation for his future. He spent two enriching years at the college, during which time his confidence and direction grew. Building on this momentum, he progressed to higher education at the University of Suffolk, where he pursued a degree in Business and Management, studying under the leadership of Penny Stevens.

What motivated you to join EEG?

I initially joined West Suffolk College after studying at a nearby sixth form and facing bullying alongside the lack of enjoyment for A-Levels. I found that moving was the best decision I made! I also think that having a university attached to the college made the process so simple and allowed me to thrive in an environment I was familiar with.

What do you do currently, and how did your experience with us support this?

I currently work as a Senior Digital Performance Marketing Executive at TUI UK&I. My qualifications in tourism solidified my passion for the industry, before following aviation and tourism throughout my university assignments, with marketing modules helping to inspire me to pursue a career in marketing.

Is there a message you would like to share as we celebrate 100 years of our history?

I would just like to thank my most memorable teachers: Jason Ling, Catherine Prothero-Waller and Penny Stevens.

What advice or messages would you like to share with future students and staff at Eastern Education Group?

I would say to fully embrace your experience here and make the most of the teachers’ support. They are truly inspirational and will help you succeed.
