Filmmakers of the future get ready to showcase their talents during one night at the movies in Bury

The next generation of Scorsese’s and Tarantino’s will be rolling out the red carpet when they host an evening of film at Abbeygate Cinema in Bury St Edmunds.

The occasion – that takes place on Thursday 26 June 2025 between 5pm and 8pm – will highlight the talents of West Suffolk College film and media students.

The event is free and open to the public and will include a wide variety of work incorporating genres such as action and horror.

And one of the directors (Charlie Scott Bell) recently spent time working on the new series of the Apple TV smash called Slow Horses.

Lasting two and a half hours, the event will be an opportunity for the local public to sit back and enjoy a few hours of entertainment produced by the filmmakers of the future.

Ben Pryke is the media course director at West Suffolk College. Ben said: “The film and media cohort of 2023/25 have just completed their course and this moment is a perfect opportunity to celebrate their incredible journey and achievements. A special thank you goes to student Charlie Scott-Bell for organising this screening and bringing it all together.

“This event is open to everyone, and we would be delighted to have you join us at the iconic Abbeygate Cinema.”

Ben added: “Tickets are on a first come first served basis. Please note that some of the films may contain themes or content unsuitable for younger audiences. Viewer discretion is advised.”

Organiser Charlie Scott-Bell, 19, from Blo Norton in Norfolk said: “The last two years have been an amazing journey for everyone in the class. It’s been a privilege to bring everyone’s work to the big screen.

“Our whole class is one of a kind, led by the incredible Ben (Pryke) the creativity of everyone is absolutely off the scale.”

Student, Spencer Brown, 19 from Winfarthing near Diss will also be attending and showing some of his work.  Spencer said: “I’m proud to be a part of the class of 2025. This night of film at the Abbeygate Cinema will be epic.”
