100 Voices – Lisa Hunt

Lisa Hunt has been a dedicated figure in higher education at West Suffolk College for over 20 years. Since joining in 2004, she has played a key role in the evolution of WSC’s degree partnerships, from Anglia Ruskin University to the University of Suffolk and back to the University of East Anglia. Her ties to the college go beyond her career – she first attended as a student and has a family connection dating back to the 1950s. Lisa takes great pride in being part of West Suffolk College’s history and its continued growth.

How does it feel to have been a part of West Suffolk College’s 100-year history?

The growth, resilience, and dedication of everyone involved has shaped this institution into the thriving, dynamic place it is today. To have played a part in its story, both past and present, is a privilege.

What does your personal history with West Suffolk College look like?

As we celebrate the centenary of West Suffolk College, I find myself reflecting on my more than twenty-year journey. Having dedicated my entire professional life with the college, to higher education, it has been a cornerstone of my career, evolving and growing in many ways.

Over the years, I have witnessed tremendous changes and achievements at West Suffolk College. When I first joined the college in 2004, our degrees were validated by Anglia Polytechnic University, which shortly after became Anglia Ruskin University. From there, we transitioned to the University of East Anglia (UEA) for a brief but pivotal year before embarking on a new chapter with University Campus Suffolk in 2007. This partnership laid the groundwork for what eventually became the University of Suffolk in 2016, cementing our place as a partner of a proud and independent institution. West Suffolk College then partnered with UEA again in 2019 and they continue to be our validating partner today.

My connection to the college stretches back even further than my career here. I first came to the college for GCSE Keyboard Applications classes on Friday mornings, as County Upper lacked computers at the time. Yet, my ties to this place reach deeper still. My grandfather, William Regent, worked here as a caretaker in the 1950/60s, adding a personal layer of history to my professional journey.

What’s been your main highlight during your time with West Suffolk College?

Completing my MBA which was only possible due to our partnership with University Campus Suffolk.
