On Friday 13th February, a group of our students enjoyed an unforgettable day at Fakenham Racecourse as part of the Racing to School programme.
Racing to School is a national education charity that provides free, interactive, outdoor learning experiences for young people at racecourses and other racing venues. The charity aims to inspire young minds by using real racing environments to deliver hands‑on activities linked to numeracy, literacy, teamwork, and careers education. Their activities gave our students a unique insight into the local horseracing industry, supported by staff with real racing experience, including former jockeys.
Our group was selected for their strong interest in horses – with some being our most recent RDA horse‑riding participants, and others joining due to their personal passion for horses and racing. One student attended to take photographs for their Trinity Arts Award, adding an exciting creative element to the day.
Students spent the day touring the racecourse and taking part in engaging, practical learning activities that helped them understand what happens behind the scenes on a race day. They learnt about the teamwork, preparation and specialist roles within the industry, asked thoughtful questions, and represented Duke of Lancaster with pride throughout.
The event combined outdoor learning, physical activity, problem‑solving and creativity, offering a rich learning experience beyond the classroom.
A huge thank you to the Racing to School team for providing such an inspiring and educational day!
