The Mission Mistress, The Story of Its Crew and Their Commemoration
On 6 January 1945, a B-17 Flying Fortress named The Mission Mistress took off from Rougham Airfield – its crew bound for Germany on a critical bombing mission. Tragedy struck as the aircraft crashed into what is now Moreton Hall in Bury St Edmunds.
