In September 2015, Dominic began his journey with West Suffolk College, undertaking his teacher training through University of Essex and the University of East Anglia. Just a few months later, in February 2016, he started working as a maths teacher. By August that same year, he had secured a full-time role.
Over the next six years at West Suffolk College, Dominic taught a wide range of students, took on the role of Programme Lead, and delivered sessions for adult learners at both the Bury and Sudbury sites. In September 2022, he moved across to Abbeygate Sixth Form College, where he continues to teach today.
Dominic’s commitment to professional development has been evident throughout his career; he has completed a degree in mathematics, achieved QTLS accreditation, and undertaken a National Professional Qualification. His passion for teaching – first sparked during his training – has continued to grow for over a decade.
What made you want to join Eastern Education Group?
The teacher training at West Suffolk College provided a different route into the profession compared to the traditional path. I was supported throughout by my excellent tutors (special thanks to Vicky Skinner!) and gained invaluable classroom experience while training.
What are you doing now, and how did your time with us shape that?
I’m now in my tenth year of teaching, following the career I always aspired to. My time here gave me the confidence and skills to grow as a teacher. Since then, I’ve earned my maths degree and other professional qualifications, but it all started with the opportunities and support I received at WSC.
Do you have any family or other connections to the Group?
Yes, my mother completed her degree here. My father undertook vocational qualifications through his work at Delphi, and my great uncle also studied short courses related to his work as a welder and blacksmith.
As we celebrate 100 years of history, what message would you like to share?
For 100 years, EEG has been educating East Anglia. Who knows what change we will make in the next 100!
