With nearly 20 years of experience working with EEG, Nicky has built strong connections and worked with colleagues across various institutions such as West Suffolk College, Abbeygate Sixth Form College, and the University and Professional Development Centre. Her journey with West Suffolk College began in 1991 where she spent a year completing a London Chamber of Commerce Private Secretary Certificate.
After completing, Nicky lived and worked up North before returning to Bury to start working at the college as an Executive Assistant in 2005. Over the years, she has been assistant to various members of Eastern Education Group’s senior leadership team, including the principal, assistant principals and executive directors.
How did your journey with West Suffolk College begin?
When I first started as a student, I wasn’t sure which career path to take, therefore I thought admin was a good way forward. After completing my course, I came back and saw a job had happened to come up just at the right moment. I am so glad I went for it. Over the past years, it has allowed me to collaborate with a diverse range of people across various roles, helping me gain valuable experience and learn so much
What have been your main highlights while working at Eastern Education Group?
One of my tutors who is still at EEG is Penny Stevens. She was an amazing mentor who passed down so much knowledge. I also have fond memories of spending most of my time in the common room, sharing so many memories. Since the beginning of my career, I’ve had the joy of meeting Sarah Loveday, who has since become a lifelong friend of mine.
Do you have any advice for new students joining EEG?
Learn something that brings you joy; it doesn’t need to be the start of a career… there’s so much time to learn different skills.
