Eastern Education Group partners with school in Ghana to donate unused science equipment

In 2025, members of staff at Eastern Education Group visited Ibadu Rahman – a high school in Kumasi, Ghana, which holds nearly 1,000 students. They attended the school’s annual students’ awards ceremony and expressed a need for support of their science and mathematics departments.

Upon returning to One Sixth Form College, engineering teacher Abdul Samba – who visited Ghana – enquired about any unused science equipment that could be donated to the school and explored what his own department could offer.

Together, the science and engineering departments were able to donate a huge range of useful equipment worth over £500, including centrifuge tubes, stethoscopes, spirit burners, science posters, and science and math textbooks.

Abdul said, “I strongly believe that access to quality resources in Science, Mathematics and Engineering can make a life-changing difference to young people. Many schools in Ghana have talented and motivated students, but lack the practical equipment needed to fully support their learning.

“By re-using and re-purposing surplus equipment, we are promoting sustainability while also reducing waste and extending the life of valuable resources. Projects like this support environmental responsibility, inspire students, raise aspirations, and open pathways into STEM careers.”

The school has expressed great appreciation for the support and is very keen to continue developing a collaborative partnership with Eastern Education Group. Adbul is eager to extend the support to other schools in Ghana, saying, “The aim is to build an environmentally and educationally sustainable model of support that strengthens teaching, learning, and career progression over many years.”
