Students from WSC & ASFC Collaborate in Youth Justice Hackathon

Today, students from West Suffolk College and Abbeygate Sixth Form College came together with our partners Volunteering Matters and iWill to take part in an inspiring Hackathon for the Youth Justice Service.

The event brought young people from across both colleges together to collaborate, problem-solve, and develop innovative ideas aimed at tackling real-life challenges affecting young people and their communities.

Throughout the day, students explored a range of important themes, including:

  • Miscommunication and discrimination
  • Rules and risk-taking
  • Sport and positivity
  • Building safer communities

Working in teams, students shared their perspectives, challenged assumptions, and designed creative solutions to address complex social issues. This was also a fantastic opportunity for our students to step up, moving from participants to facilitators, and the discussions and insights shared today were genuinely impressive. Their confidence, leadership, and maturity were evident throughout the event.

A special shout-out goes to our photography students, whose outstanding images helped bring the conversations to life, capturing key moments and adding depth and impact to the discussions.

This Hackathon highlights the power of partnership working between education providers and community organisations, and reflects our shared commitment to youth voice, social action, and positive change.

We are incredibly proud of all the students involved and look forward to seeing how their ideas and contributions help shape future work with the Youth Justice Service and beyond.
