Inspirational Suffolk mum achieves second place at world bodybuilding championships in Los Angeles

Following a 20-year fitness journey, Suffolk mum of two Sarah Stannard represented Great Britain on a global stage at the World Natural Bodybuilding Finals (WNBF).

On 22nd November, Sarah – who works as a catering manager for Eastern Education Group – competed in Los Angeles for a medal in the Amateur Open Women’s Bodybuilding category of the WNBF. Although it was a competitive category, she was awarded a second-place trophy, much to her delight and pride.

Sarah was invited to the final back in September, when she finished in the top three of her category in the qualifiers. She was excited to take her journey overseas and represent her country on a global platform.

At the Finals, Sarah took to the stage to showcase her physique; performing a series of quarter turns in positions that expose muscle. After that, competitors perform a 60 second routine, similarly flexing their muscles to a song of their choice.

Sarah was “over the moon” when her achievement was announced – a feeling that was shared by her daughter Abby, who also travelled to Los Angeles in support. Sarah said, “Being up against two pros, I was really chuffed.”

Back at home, Sarah’s family cheered her on through the live stream, waving their Union Jacks to support Team GB.

But the celebrations didn’t end there; Sarah watched the pro championships of the WNBF the following day and celebrated with the rest of Team GB at a team breakfast and a trip to Muscle Beach.

The response from her colleagues has left Sarah feeling quite emotional: “All the schools I’ve visited have been so supportive, and really proud. I’ve had flowers, cards. It’s been really overwhelming.”

Zoe Hobbs, finance manager at Eastern Education Group, said: “Her (Sarah’s) dedication and achievements have been inspirational.”

Looking to the future, Sarah is taking the next year to grow and build, aiming to return to the World’s in 2027. Her next goal is to gain a pro card, which will give her automatic access to other competitions without having to qualify.
