Rosie Roberts – 100 Voices

Rosie Roberts first joined EEG at West Suffolk College in 2024 before moving to Abbeygate Sixth Form College when her academic interests changed. Now she studies full-time A-Levels (media, sociology and business, with a graphic communications AS), whilst also working as a media and communications assistant with EEG for the summer.

What’s your journey at Abbeygate been like so far?

As a current Year 12 student, I am studying A-levels in media, sociology and business, an AS in graphic communication, and an EPQ. I began my studies at West Suffolk College before discovering my academic interests and transferring to Abbeygate Sixth Form College in October 2024. Since moving, I have thrived at Abbeygate, being given many opportunities, including a Turing Scheme trip to Canada and being offered a role as a media and communications assistant at EEG during the summer. I am now working towards my Year 13 exams and, hopefully, a bright future in the media.

Why did you choose to study with us?

I joined as a student because EEG appealed to me both academically and socially. My studies have always meant a great deal to me, but the fun and vibrant student life across the different colleges within EEG was a major draw. The variety of sports clubs, social groups and opportunities for trips abroad really helped me decide where I wanted to study.

What are your plans for the future?

I am currently working towards my Year 13 exams, university applications, and personal statement – all of which Abbeygate has supported me with immensely. The college has helped guide me in shaping my future and provided the resources to pursue it. I hope it continues to do so as I move through Year 13.

Do you have any family members that were a part of EEG?

My sister went to West Suffolk College as an art and design student before getting her degree in illustration at Falmouth University in 2023.

Do you have any special memories of your time with us so far?

One of the standout experiences for me was the two-and-a-half-week trip to Canada with Abbeygate and Challengers Abroad. It truly was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I made friendships that I know will last for many years to come.

Is there a message you’d like to share as we celebrate 100 years of History?

EEG has come so far to a point that my journey between high school and university isn’t just a placeholder between times of my life, instead it’s an experience that I will dearly miss and cherish for many years to come.

Do you have any advice for future students and staff at EEG?

Try everything offered to you. Not only will you probably enjoy it, you’ll meet new people that might become lifelong friends.
