Ellisha Soanes is an award-winning specialist in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion. Formerly the Head of EDI across several colleges and adult education institutions in East Anglia, she has dedicated the past seven years to the education sector, following over 10 years of experience in social care and public health.
She is a passionate advocate for social mobility and became one of the first lecturers in Further Education to embed Black History teaching throughout the entire year. Among her notable achievements, she is the co-author of Elimu – the Little Book of Knowledge, which is now being used in schools across Suffolk.
Ellisha also mentors young people and collaborates with businesses and community projects to create opportunities and empower others. She has worked closely with the Department for Education to help implement systemic change. Her leadership has been featured in national journals, including The Guardian, where she has contributed as a columnist. Recently, she was recognised by Glamour magazine as one of the top 15 Trailblazing Black Women in the UK. Ellisha also serves as a United Nations Women’s delegate and was recently invited to speak at Parliament on race and education.
Where did your journey begin with Eastern Education Group?
I wanted to pursue my love for teaching and helping others. I started working at the college nearly 10 years ago and have loved every minute of it.
Do you have any special memories from your time with us?

Are there any family members who have connections to EEG?
My mother also works for the college, and I will encourage my children to join once they reach the right age.
